Lagom: the perfect balance

Hello & Welcome

Lagom Fitness is a specialist personal training service for pre/post-natal women and women in their mid-life years and beyond. I’m Alexandra Church and I provide a safe and effective exercise during pregnancy, restorative and healing post-natal exercise as well as nutritional and dietary advice.

“For me, exercise should not be extra stress, and something that further depletes you, but a positive, enhancing element in your life.”

I currently live in St. Boswells in the Scottish Borders with my husband and two children. I have worked as a personal trainer in London, Dubai and Edinburgh, and it was following the birth of my children that I decided to specialise in pre-and post-natal training.

I have a passion for women’s health and now work with mid-life, peri and post-menopausal women.

Just Right, For You

Enhance your life with Exercise

We are all dealing with a lot of stress in our lives, which is having a proven negative effect on our health. My business concept is based upon the Swedish word ‘lagom’, which although doesn’t have a direct translation, means ‘just right’, ‘in moderation’, ‘not too much, not too little’. This is a fantastic approach to life and can be applied to every aspect of our lives, but especially health and wellness. With so many different health and fitness sites available online, it is both amazing to have the wealth of knowledge available to us, but can also be overwhelming knowing where to start, and trying to work out what is best for you. I will work with you to discover what you enjoy, and what you can realistically fit into your day in terms of exercise.

“Training with Alex both during and after my pregnancy boosted my energy levels, maintained my fitness and helped me cope with the demands of labour. I’m now well on the way to regaining my pre-pregnancy shape. Alex is a professional, enthusiastic trainer who helped me realise exercise can be fun and ensured that I reached my individual goals with her continuous support”

Jemima, London

“Alex is fantastic, she has been training me 3 times a week for the last 6 months and I feel so strong, fit and healthy. The sessions are fun, ever-changing and always tailored just to my specific needs, so I look forward to every session, which is amazing as I’m usually someone who says away from exercise! Alex and I often train in person, meet for runs or do quick online sessions if I have to be away for work, she will tailor a programme in an instant if schedules change and I find myself in a hotel room with only a pair of trainers. If your someone who needs a bit of motivation, or who prefers to train with someone then this is the place for you. Lagom fitness is a firm and positive part of my life now.”

Suzanne, The Batch Lady

“I trained with Alex after the birth of my second child. We went running and training in parks with the stroller:) she gave me confidence that I could get back in shape and most importantly gave me the taste for the sport. I never stopped exercising since!!! I lost my baby weight, defined my body and built stamina with Alex. Her enthusiasm is contagious and she is the best coach I ever met. She is super, super positive and helps you in a really nice way. Highly, highly recommended!”

How often should I train?

It depends on your health and fitness goals, but ideally, training should be done at least 3 times per week. As with most things, the more you put in the more you get out of it.

Where should I train?

You can train anywhere that suits you. Nearly all the equipment I use is very affordable and you can easily train at home or in your garden or a park.

Why can’t I just do cardio?

Whilst cardio is great for strengthening the heart and lungs, it doesn’t provide the stimulus your body needs to build bigger, stronger muscles and bones. You need resistance or body weight training for this!

How often should I have a personal training session?

It depends on you and what you are looking to achieve. It is an individual decision based on your fitness goals, availability and budget.

How does online training work?

We will arrange a zoom conversation (free of charge) before you decide to train, in order to have the opportunity to meet face to face to discuss your health and fitness goals and talk through any questions you may have. If you decide to go ahead, I will advise you on what equipment to buy so you can get set up at home. I offer 1 hour or 30-minute sessions and conduct them as I would in person. Sessions will be done via Facetime or zoom.
